Space Case (led by the core group of Frank Gibson Jr., Brian "hard bop" Smith, Kim Paterson and Murray McNabb): 'Executive Decision' (1981); 'Space Case Two' (1983); plus 'Space Case Three' (1985)
The group was noted for always playing tight + energetic ensemble work, yet the arrangements they used allowed each musician the room to flex their considerable (but always tasteful) "solo" chops, which is notable here on this "classic" recording. Twenty-something years on, and this material still sounds fresh & invigorating.
