Clean off-shoot band The Great Unwashed recorded two psychedelic-pop records in the early 80s. The first, an LP - Clean Out of Our Minds - was recorded at home in Christchurch by brothers Hamish and David Kilgour in 1983, just after they had disbanded The Clean. By their second recording, the Kilgour brothers had been joined by Peter Gutteridge (Snapper), who gave the band a harder sound. The Great Unwashed are considered to represent an important part of Flying Nun heritage, as the link from The Clean to the music all three members are making today.
