Naked Spots Dance formed in 1980 with a line-up of Kate Walker, Stephen Norris, Phil Harfield and Jenny Leyland. The band were an integral part of the Terrace Scene with three songs included in the 1981 compilation **** (Four Stars). Heavily improvisational and accompanied by an ethereal vocal style NSD were regarded as one of Wellington's best bands of the time, releasing one album and two EPs between 1981 and 1983. Described by core member Stephen Norris as “constructively depressed” (In Touch, 1981) NSD's sound “concentrated mostly on a moody rather than a rocking atmosphere; the music tended to ebb and flow rather than thrash and the often repetitive, chanted lyrics were many times blank verse.” Churton, W.R., (1999, 2001). Have You Checked The Children? Punk and Postpunk Music in New Zealand, 1977-1981 Christchurch, New Zealand: Put Your Foot Down Publishing. ISBN 0-473-06196-1

Naked Spots Dance would go through a number of line up changes on vocals and drums with Frances Walsh of The Wallsockets joining them on vocals in 1983 for their final recording “Falling”, produced by Andy Drey of The Steroids.
