Miles in the Sky is a studio album by American trumpeter and composer Miles Davis, released on July 22, 1968, by Columbia Records.^[2]

Miles in the Sky was produced by Teo Macero and recorded at Columbia Studio B in New York City on January 16, 1968, and May 15–17, 1968.^[3] For the album, Davis played with tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter, pianist Herbie Hancock, drummer Tony Williams, and bassist Ron Carter.^[3] It was the first Miles Davis album to include electric piano and electric bass on some of the tracks. Guitarist George Benson made a guest appearance on the song "Paraphernalia," the only song released at the time from a series of sessions featuring guitarists, including Joe Beck and Bucky Pizzarelli as well as Benson. The box set The Complete Studio Recordings of The Miles Davis Quintet 1965–1968 collects all of the era's recordings, many of which had appeared on the earlier archival releases Circle in the Round and Directions.

The album's title was a nod to the Beatles' 1967 song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds".^[2]119
